Friction

I wanted to light the world ablaze with writing 50K works this month. I did, I really did. Unfortunately, my storyline was flawed and my heart fell a bit into my solar plexus. Still, I couldn’t let this month go by without making any progress at all. After some serious mental friction, I wanted to put the whole thing into an old tin can and kick it to the side of the curb. Then last night, I had a dream… Something I’d often imagined became a ‘felt experience.’ This afternoon I got to work.

I came up with a 45 (ish) word nugget for my storyline as per the great advice of James V. Smith, Jr., author of, “You Can Write a Novel.” Believe me, I’ve read many books on this subject – tried various writing software – and this trumps them all in terms of the actual nuts and bolts of putting a novel together. I highly recommend it for a minimal amount of explanation and for cutting right to the chase.

And as for my synopsis? Unless you’re a diehard fiction writer, I doubt it would be very interesting to you at this stage.  (For those folks, please email me).  On this rainy November night, I celebrate the creative spark that links all creative souls.

(Thank you to Sunday Scribblings for the writing prompt!)

Eva Cassidy…

Listening to “Songbird,” today I felt my heart open… Almost as if I was hearing a love song to myself… And there’s absolutely nothing like that.  Nothing like self-love.  It’s what makes it possible to love at all.  Thank you Eva – I wish you could have been here longer.

For you there’ll be no crying
For you the sun will be shining
‘Cause I feel that when I’m with you
It’s alright, I know it’s right

And the songbirds keep singing
Like they know the score
And I love you, I love you, I love you
Like never before

<instrumental>

To you, I would give the world
To you, I’d never be cold
‘Cause I feel that when I’m with you
It’s alright, I know it’s right

And the songbirds keep singing
Like they know the score
And I love you, I love you, I love you
Like never before

Like never before; like never before.

The Love Guru – Review

Thought I’d create a category for book / movie reviews.  They involve writing, right?  🙂

Well, without further ado, let me give my honest opinion of The Love Guru, by Mike Meyers.  In a word:  Rock On!

Make that two words… this movie deserved it after all the mudslinging it’s had to endure.  I even heard it was dubbed the worst movie of the year?  I don’t understand the negative press – it was a riot.  I was giggling the entire time.  Maybe the beauty of my experience is that I saw it way after all the hoopla.   This movie gave me exactly what I thought (and hoped) it would:  a hilarious rip on the whole New Age movement, including the lip service given to guru types in general.

I felt the writing was great – it tapped into a lot New Age subtext that I think went right over people’s heads.  I happen to have been through some of that crap about a dozen years ago.  I currently work for someone addicted to self-help tapes of all kinds.  Sometimes all I can do is cringe and staple my lips together.

So… THANK YOU Mike Meyers for a great Friday night.  Marishka Hargitay. 🙂
